Annular Solar Eclipse, by Alex Mendiolagoitia
An annular solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes as a new moon right between the Sun and the Earth. As the lunar orbit is not circular but somewhat elliptical, sometimes our satellite is a little further from the Earth and therefore, seen from our planet, the Moon has an apparent size somewhat smaller, so it does not cover the Sun completely, leaving a visible solar surface ring around the new moon.
